** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Start by stacking two Color 1 and two Color 3 5-1/4" squares and cutting them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles of each... |

Lay these quarter square triangles out to form quarter squares, then sew pairs of these quarter square triangles together. Join the pairs to make four Quarter Squares, using 1/4" seams, and pressing seams to the darker side... |

Mark and cut the Color 2 1-1/2" x 14" strip into four 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 2 1-1/2" x 10" strip into four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles. Mark the Color 2 2-1/2" x 11-1/2" strip into one 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle and two 2-1/2" squares... |

Now mark and cut the Color 3 1-1/2" x 13" strip into two 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 3 1-1/2" x 10" strip into four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 3 2-1/2" x 12" strip into two 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles and two 2-1/2" squares... |

Sew the short Color 2 and Color 3 rectangles together in pairs. Make four. Sew the longer Color 2 rectangles to the ends of the Color 3 long rectangle. Make two for the block's top and bottom rows. Sew the Color 3 short fat rectangles to each end of the Color 2 long fat rectangle for the block's center row. Sew the Color 2 and Color 3 squares together in pairs. Make four...on to Page 2! |
