** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by stacking two Color 1 and two Color 3  5-1/4" squares and cutting them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles of each...

 Lay these quarter square triangles out to form quarter squares, then sew pairs of these quarter square triangles together. Join the pairs to make four Quarter Squares, using 1/4" seams, and pressing seams to the darker side...

Mark and cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 14" strip into four 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 10" strip into four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles. Mark the Color 2  2-1/2" x 11-1/2" strip into one 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle and two 2-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 13" strip into two 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 10" strip into four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 12" strip into two 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles and two 2-1/2" squares...

Sew the short Color 2 and Color 3 rectangles together in pairs. Make four. Sew the longer Color 2 rectangles to the ends of the Color 3 long rectangle. Make two for the block's top and bottom rows. Sew the Color 3 short fat rectangles to each end of the Color 2 long fat rectangle for the block's center row. Sew the Color 2 and Color 3  squares together in pairs. Make four...on to Page 2!
