The Coast Guard Star - Page 2

Now, to make one flying geese unit, place a Color 1  3-1/2" square right sides together atop a Color 2 rectangle, with edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the center. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make all four geese units in the same manner...

Now construct one center unit as shown at left, using the white centered friendship star, four geese units, and four 3-1/2" Color 2 squares...

Sew two of the units shown at left, top, and two of the units shown at left, bottom...

Lay out all units as shown at left. Sew the shorter side units to the sides of the center star. Sew the longer side units to the top and bottom and your Coast Guard Star is complete!
