This makes a 24" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Now cut the Color 1  3-1/2" x 28" strip into eight 3-1/2" squares...

 

Next cut the two Color 2  2-1/2" x 40" strips into sixteen 2-1/2" squares from each. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip into an additional five 2-1/2" squares. Now cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 2   3-1/2" x 26" strip into four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

 

Cut the Color 3  2-7/8" x 40-1/4" strip into fourteen 2-7/8" squares. Cut the Color 3 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into an additional four 2-7/8" squares. Cut each of these once on the diagonal to make two half square triangles from each square. Repeat this with the Color 2   2-7/8" x 40-1/4"  and one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips.  Sew Color 2 and Color 3 half square triangles together using 1/4" seams to make thirty-six half squares. These should measure 2-1/2" ...

 Now sew two Color 2  2-1/2" x 28" strips and one Color 1  2-1/2" x 28 strip together along the long edges as shown at left. Press seams to darker side.  Cut into eight 3-1/2" sections...

 

Using four of the Color 2  2-1/2" squares, four 2-1/2" half squares, and one Color 1  2-1/2" square, make eight friendship star units. Make one more with a white square in the center instead of red...on to Page 2!
