The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Starbuckles block! You will need to print out one copy of the template A page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. The template on page B will be used to cut other units.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 13" strips into two 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles of each...

Use the template provided to cut two trapezoids from both the Color 1 and  the Color 2  2-3/4" x 17" strips...

Now pair up the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" squares right sides together with Color 3  2-7/8" squares. On the back of the top squares mark the diagonal. Sew 1/4" away on each side of the drawn lines. Cut apart on the drawn lines. This will give you two half squares in each color combo. Press seams to darker sides. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Now sew the four half squares together as shown at left...on to Page 2!
