This makes an 8-1/2" FINISHED block, and is paper pieced! Four different tones from within the same color family work great for this one...shown here in all Jinny Beyer Fabrics! I urge you to check out her Color Palette! Fabrics can be purchased from her site!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Sky Rocket! You will need to print out four copies of  the corner unit and three copies of the center nine patch strip per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. A Fat Quarter of each fabric should be plenty!

Once your units have been paper pieced, join the three center nine patch sections, using the standard 1/4" seam. Sew a corner unit to each side...and you are all done!

The quilt is so pretty, and a little optical!

Side , top and bottom borders were made with rectangles of the lighter center nine patch color, and more paper pieced corner units!

Happy Quilting
