** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Using the template provided cut one Color 1 square from the 6-1/2" square...

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...
Cut the Color 2  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...
Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines.(1/4" seams are called for now and throughout the block making process) Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Sew the Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" x 18" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press seam to dark side. Cut at 4-1/2" intervals to make four pieced side units...
Using the pieced side units and half square units sew two of each of the units shown at left...on to Page 2!
