** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

 

Cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 36" strip into eleven 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles and two 1-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 23-1/2" strip into seven 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles and two 1-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 12" strip into four 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles.  Now cut the Color 4  1-1/2" x 7-1/2" strip into two 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles and one 1-1/2" square. Lastly, cut the Color 5  3" x 34-1/2" strip into one 3" x 7-1/2" rectangle, one 3" x 5-1/2" rectangle, four 3" x 4-1/2" rectangles and one 3" x 3-1/2" rectangle. Cut the Color 5  1-1/2" x 7" strip into two 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

 

Referring to the Color Numbers shown at left, and using a scant 1/4" seam allowance, make one unit A as shown at left.( This unit uses the 3-1/2" Color 5 rectangle) Press seams towards the center. Cut the apart at the 1-1/2" point to make two A strips...on to Page 2!
