Gingerbread Man - Page 2

From a scrap of red fabric, measuring about 3" x 2", cut a freehand bowtie shape. Pin this in place, and appliqué down. If you like you can add a center tie knot separately to add dimension...

Now sew on eyes and buttons. You can use buttons for all of these...or large black snaps, or even small stuffed fabric circles! Add a small length of leftover rattail for the mouth, or machine zigzag in white thread......Now for the Wall hanging!!

Cut the Color 4 and Color 5  3" x 20" strips into sixteen 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles each. Set these aside for a bit...

Sew  the Color 4 and Color 6  1-1/2" x 12" strips right sides together along one long edge, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Mark and cut this new unit at 1-1/2" intervals as shown...

From the Color 1   8-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle. Cut four approx. 1/2" tall x 1-1/2" wide freehand tree shapes. Remember to add a little extra fabric all around to allow for turning under the edges.  {If you prefer you can click on the image at left to print out the approximate shapes for the trees and the hearts we will need in a bit...:o) } Cut these out ON the dark lines! ...

Now sew your corner four patch units from the two color units pieced earlier. Make four, and to each of these pin on a tree, and appliqué. I show two here, as you may want to rotate the four patch blocks so that they will be symmetrical around the gingerbread man...or not...:o)...your choice!...on to Page 3!
