Next, sew together the Color 4 and Color 5 small rectangles we made earlier. Make four groups of eight, and sew two four patch units to the end of two of these... |

Sew the two side strips without corner four patch squares to the left and right sides of the gingerbread man square, using a scant 1/4" seam, and pressing seams towards center square... |

Then sew the remaining two side strips to the top and bottom of the gingerbread man square, this time pressing seams towards the side strips... |

Next, place and pin on your four hearts. Appliqué on. Be sure to leave the 1/4" near the edges free for adding the borders! |

Then sew a 1-1/2"
x 12" Color 1 strip to the left and to the right of the square, again using
scant 1/4" seams, pressing seams towards the center square...
