** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Using the template provided, cut six trapezoids from Color 1 and Color 2   3-3-4" x 22" rectangles...

Mark and cut the Color 3  3" x 18" strip into twenty four 1-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 3  1-7/8" x 5-5/8" strip into three 1-7/8" squares. (Cut TWO this way; only one is shown here.) Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make twelve half square triangles...

Mark and cut the Color 4  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip into four 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking a Color 2 and Color 3  1-7/8" x 11-1/4" strip set, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 1-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 1-7/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 1-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with the other Color 2 and Color 3  1-7/8" x 11-1/4" strip set to make twelve more...

Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew the Color 1 and Color 2 trapezoids right sides together as shown at left. Note I only show two being sewn together here to show you how. You need to keep adding more to make TWO sets of  six bars each, starting with red at the top, and ending with tan at the bottom. Press seams to darker sides...on to Page 2!
