** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  2" x 16" strip into  eight 2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 3  4" x 14" strip into eight 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles

Next mark and cut the Color 4  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Mark and cut the Color 5  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 5  2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares. Cut one Color 5  3-1/2" square...

Now mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 5  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips into two 3-7/8" squares each. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

Sew the half square triangles together in pairs as shown at left. Make four units like this. Press seams towards darker side. trim these back to be 3-1/2" square if needed...

Make flying geese units by placing a Color 2  2" square right sides together against one end of a Color 5 rectangle, with edges aligned. On the back of the small square lightly draw in the diagonal, and then sew on this drawn line. Trim off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the corner triangle. Repeat this with another small square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four units like this... ...on to Page 2!
