** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack those squares and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make two Half Square Triangles.  Next cut the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares and also stack and cut those into Half Square Triangles.  Then cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Cut the Color 3  5-1/4" square in half along both diagonals to make four Quarter Square Triangles...

Next cut the Color 4  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Lastly, cut the Color 4   2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack and cut those 2-7/8" squares once on the diagonal to make eight Half Square Triangles...

Now sew the Color 1 and Color 4 Half Square triangles right sides together in pairs, as shown here in enlargement, using a 1/4" seam, and pressing the seam to the darker side. Make eight unit's like this. These should measure 2-1/2"...on to Page 2!
