** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  6" x 22" strip into  eight 3" x 5-1/2" rectangles. The mark and cut the Color 1   6" x 30" strip into twenty 3" squares... 

Cut one Color 2   5-1/2" center square. Mark and cut the Color 2  6" x 11" strip into four 3" x 5-1/2" rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 2  3" x 24" strip into eight 3" squares. ...

Mark and cut the Color 3  3" x 36" strip into twelve 3" squares. Mark and cut the Color 3  6" x 32" strip into eight 3" x 8" long rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 3  6" x 11" strip into four 3" x 5-1/2" short rectangles...

To sew the flying geese units place a Color 3  3" square lined up with and right sides together to the left end of a Color 1  3" x 5-1/2" rectangle. On the back of the Color 3 square, draw the diagonal as shown at left. Sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the triangle. Repeat with another Color 3 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four flying geese units like this. Make four more using Color 2 rectangles and Color 1 squares...and four MORE, using Color 1 rectangles and Color 2 squares...on to Page 2!
