** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1 and Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strips into four 3-1/2" squares of each...

Now cut the Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strips into two 4-1/4" squares of each...

Then cut the Color 1 and Color 2  3-1/2" x 13" strips into two 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles of each...

Place a Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" square right sides together with all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly draw the diagonal, and then stitch 1/4" away from this drawn line on each side of it. Place a ruler on the opposite diagonal and cut the squares in half. Then cut in half on the drawn lines. This will give you four pieced triangles. Press seams to darker sides. Sew pairs of triangles together as shown at left to make a quarter square unit. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with the other Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" squares...

Follow the same procedure as above to make one of  larger Quarter Square units. (This uses the Color 1 and Color 2  7-1/4" squares you cut!) You will have extra pieced triangles. Save them to use in another project or block...on to Page 2!
