Tenth Star - Page 2

Place a Color 4  2" square right sides together atop one corner of a Color 3  3-1/2" square, with outer edges aligned. (I show them staggered here just so you can see that there are two layers) On the back of the top square, lightly draw the diagonal, then sew ON this diagonal line.

Cut off the excess seam allowance, and press the remainder outward. Repeat this with another Color 4 square on the opposing corner. Repeat the same procedure on the adjacent corners, again pressing the seams outward. This completes a Square In Square unit. Make four of these. These should measure 3-1/2"...

To make a Flying Geese unit, place a Color 2  2"square right sides together with the top left of a Color 1 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder outward. Repeat this with another Color 2  2"square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four Flying Geese in the same manner. These should measure 2" x 3-1/2"...

Next, using a scant 1/4" seam, sew a Flying Geese unit to the bottom of each Square in Square unit...

If you haven't already done it, go ahead and join the two halves of the paper pieced units to make the corner units, pressing the seams to one side. Make four of these. They should measure 5"... now on to Page 3!
