** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 1  5-3/4" x 17-1/4" strip into twelve 2-7/8" squares...

Next cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strip into six 2-7/8" squares...

Then cut the Color 3  5" x 10" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 3  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strip into six 2-7/8" squares. Cut the Color 3  5" x 17" strip into four 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles...

Now place six Color 1 and Color 3  2-7/8" squares right sides together with all edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal. Sew 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides of it. Cut apart on the drawn line. Press to darker side. These should measure 2-1/2". Make twelve of these, and twelve using Color 1 and Color 2...

To sew the block's center unit, sew together two units of four Color 1/Color 2 half squares for the sides, and two units of two Color1/Color 2 half squares for the top and bottom. Add the shorter units to the top and bottom of your Color 3  4-1/2" square. Add the longer units to the sides...

Now sew two of the units shown at far left. Add a Color 3  2-1/2" x 8-1/2" strip to the right side of each. These will be the block's two side units...

Sew two of the rows shown at left...on to Page 2!
