** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by using the square template provided to cut four squares from the Color 1  3" x 12" strip...

Next use the rectangle template to cut four rectangles from the Color 2  6" x 10" strip. Cut the Color 2  4-1/4" square in half on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles. (QSTs) Cut the Color 2  2-3/8" x 19" strip into eight 2-3/8" squares. Stack the squares and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make sixteen half square triangles. (HSTs) ...

Now cut the Color 3  2" x 20" strip into four 2" x 5" rectangles. Cut the Color 2  2" x 14" into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Cut the 2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares...

Using a 1/4" seam now and throughout the block-making, sew Color 2 QSTs to opposing sides of the Color 1  3-1/2" square, pressing seams towards the corner triangles. Then sew the last two Color 2 QSTs to the adjacent sides of the center square, again pressing towards the corners. This will be the block's center Square in Square unit...on to Page 2!
