** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 2  2-1/2" x 42" strip into one 2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip, two 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" strips and five 2-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 20-1/8" strips into seven 2-7/8" squares of each. Stack these in pairs and draw in the diagonal on the back of the top square. Stitch 1/4" away on both sides of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line. Press to dark sides. This will make fourteen half squares. These should measure 2-1/2". You only need thirteen for this block...

Next, using the half squares we just made and three of the 2-1/2" Color 2 squares, construct the four rows shown at far left and sew them together to makes the block's center. 1/4" seams are used throughout...

Place the remaining two Color 2 squares right sides together against the ends of the Color 1  2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip, with edges aligned. Draw in the diagonals as shown and stitch ON the drawn line. Cut off the excess corner, pressing the remaining 1/4" towards the triangles...

...on to Page 2!
