Daughter Kris says this one is "AWESOME MOM!...it's so BRIGHT!"  smart kid!...come to think of it... you never bite the hand that feeds you...she really IS smart!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First Mark and cut the Color 1 3-1/2" x 26" strip into four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 28" strip into eight 3-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips right sides together. On the back of the top square lightly  draw the 3-7/8" square lines and draw the diagonals also. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the 3-7/8" square lines. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square lines too. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. These should measure 3-1/2"...

Stack a Color 2  3-1/2" square right sides together atop the left end of a Color 1 rectangle. Lightly mark the diagonal on the back of the Color 2 square and sew ON this diagonal line. Cut off excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the rectangle. Repeat this with another square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four of these......on to Page 2!
