This makes a 12" block and is a great beginner's block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

 

Start by cutting the Color 1 and Color 3  3-1/2" x 20" strips into two 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles and two 3-1/2" squares of each...

 

 

Using a 1/4" seam allowance sew pairs of rectangles and pairs of squares right sides together. Press seams to darker sides. You need two pairs of each rectangles and squares...

 

 

Now lay out the units as shown at left.  Sew the square-pairs to the sides of the center Color 2 square. Press seams towards center square. Add the rectangle pairs to the top and bottom, pressing seams towards rectangles, and the block is done! Wasn't that easy?! ...on to Page 2!
