** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

 

Start by cutting one set of Color 1 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips into two squares each. Stack and cut these squares once on the diagonal...

 

Now cut the Color 1 and Color 2  7-1/4" squares each twice on the diagonal...

 

 

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the remaining set of Color 1 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. Draw a light line on the back marking the 3-7/8" square, then mark the diagonals in the directions shown. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart on the square line, and on the marked diagonal lines. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. These should measure 3-1/2"...

Sew a Color 1 and Color 2  quarter square triangle together along the center seam, using a 1/4" seam. press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Make four of these units...on to Page 2!
