** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1, 2, 4 and 5  2-5/8" x 5-1/4" strips into two 2-5/8" squares of each. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each. Cut the Color 7  2-5/8" x 10-1/2" strip into four 2-5/8" squares. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles. Cut the Color 7  3" x 6" strip into two 3" squares. Stack these and cut on BOTH diagonals to make eight quarter square triangles...

Cut the Color 6  1-1/2" x 7-1/2" strip into five 1-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 7  6" x 12" strip into twelve 1-1/2" x 4" rectangles...

Now make two pinwheel units using Color 7 and Color 4 + 5   2-5/8" half square triangles, as shown at left. First sew pairs of triangles together; press to the dark side; trim each once to measure 2-1/4" if needed. Join four half squares to form each pinwheel unit...

To make the square-in-square units, first sew Color 7 quarter  square triangles to opposing sides of the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/4" squares. Now add QSTS to the remaining sides of the squares. To the Color 1 unit, next add Color 1 half square triangles to the four sides. Add Color 2 half square triangles to the Color 2 unit in the same manner...on to Page 2!
