This makes a 12" block, and is paper  pieced! There is also a 6" version, for those TRUE GLUTTONS FOR PUNISHMENT!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Red Emperor! You will need to print out four copies of each of the units needed per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. A Fat Quarter of each fabric should be plenty!

After the units are pieced, join the left and right tulip units in pairs....and add the left and right "leaves" to either side of each pair...

Then sew the four block quarters together, first into rows, and then join those rows to make your block!
