** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strips into four 3-1/2" squares of each...

The mark and cut the 4" x 16" strip into sixteen 2" squares...

Place 2" Color 3 squares right sides together to opposing corners of Color 2  3-1/2" squares, with outside edges aligned. ( I show them staggered here just so you can see what pieces I mean- yours shouldn't be) On the back of the small squares draw in the diagonals, and sew on the drawn lines. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the resulting corner triangles. Make four units like this. Trim them to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Then, working one corner at a time, sew small Color 3 squares to the top corners of the Color 1  3-1/2" squares, again cutting off the excess seam allowance and pressing the remainder towards the newly formed corner triangles. Make four units like this. Trim them to measure 3-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
