** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, mark and cut one of the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips into four 2-7/8" squares, and then cut them again on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 1   5-1/4" square on the diagonal. Cut the resultant triangles again on the diagonal to make four quarter square triangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 1 5" x 15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares...

Mark and cut the Color 1  5" x 18" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2   5" x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Now speed piece the half squares, by stacking the remaining Color 1 and the Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. Lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals on the back of the top strip as well. Sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the 2-7/8" square lines as shown at left. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press to darker side. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Next mark and cut the Color 4  4-7/8" x 19-1/2" strip into four 4-7/8" squares, and cut these again on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...and now...on to Page 2!
