** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Now cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

 

 

Next cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

 

 

Then cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares...

 

Now cut the Color 3  6-1/2" x 13" strip into two 6-1/2" squares... 

 

First make the "Snowball" units, by placing the four Color 1   2-1/2" squares right sides together lined up with the four corners of a Color 3 large square. Lightly mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left on the backs of the four small squares. Sew ON these markings. Cut off the excess seam allowances; press the remainders towards the outer triangles. Make another of these snowballs, using the remaining Color 3 large square, and the Color 2 small squares...on to Page 2!
