It's August as I, 1998 am starting to make this page...the leaves are just beginning to change out of their summer clothes...fall nights...crisp air...we are heading into quilting season!

This makes a 12" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

 

First, stack the 1-7/8" strips, and cut together with a rotary cutter into 3  1-7/8" squares of each...

Then, stack the 4-1/2" strips and cut those together into 4 1/2" squares...now...
Using a 1/4 " seam...piece the small squares in the order shown. Press seams towards darker fabrics. You may need to trim this back a tad to be 4-1/2"...
Then, piece the larger squares in the order shown, again using scant, precise 1/4" seams, and pressing these seams towards the darker fabric and the end result will be your Nine Patch Variation Block!!  ...on to Page 2!
