The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a New Shining Star block! You will need to print out four copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. (You really need only one Four Patch though!) Fat quarters should be plenty!

Start by joining pairs of corner units to make four. Make one center Four Patch unit. Sew the Four Patch unit right sides together to the slant edge of one of the corner units between points 1/4" in from each end of the Four Patch. Backstitch one stitch at the beginning and end of this row of stitching. Press seam towards four patch...

Now add the opposing corner unit, again stitching between those 1/4" points and backstitching at beginning and end...

Sew in the two adjacent corner units, sewing only between the 1/4" points on the Four Patch, backstitching as before...

...on to Page 2!
