The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a N.F.B. block! You will need to print out one copy of each template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You will also need one white and one green 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip, and one green 2-1/2" square. Fat quarters should be plenty!

Speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

It's time to do all your paper piecing! Once that is done, sew the three flower-top sections together, then add the stem.  Sew the half square triangles together in groups of four, being sure they are oriented as shown at left. Sew the extra green square to the bottom of the right-side strip of half squares. Add the shorter half square strip to the bottom of the flower, then add the right-side strip to finish the block!...on to Page 2!
