This makes an 12" block and is from the early 1900's!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 7" strip into two 3-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 1  3-7/8" x 11-5/8" strip into three 3-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them once on the diagonal to make six half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 2  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip into four 3-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 7" strip into two 3-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 3  3-7/8" x 19-3/8" strip into five 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make ten half square triangles...

Now, using 1/4" seams, sew the half square triangles together to make the half squares shown at left. Press to darker side. These should measure 3-1/2" ...

Next piece the block by sewing the four horizontal rows shown at left; sew those rows together and your block is done!
