This is another of those "method instruction" patterns, rather than an actual block pattern! The amount shown at right would measure18" x 24"!

Use rectangles that will finish 3 x longer than they are wide to make this in different sizes! EXAMPLE: cut at 1-1/2" x 3-1/2"... 2-1/2" x 6-1/2"... etc. etc.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut your Color 1 and Color 2  10-1/2" x 38" rectangles first into 3-1/2" strips horizontally, then cut each strip into four 3-1/2" x 9-1/2" rectangles...

Place a Color 2 rectangle right sides together with a Color 1 rectangle, at right angles as shown at left, top. Draw a line on the back of the top strip from the top left to the lower right and sew ON this drawn line. Press out the seam, cutting off the excess seam allowance and pressing the remainder to one side. Now trim this, so that it measure 9-1/2" x 3-1/2" in length, noting that along the sides, the longer color needs to measure 6-1/2", and the shorter 3-1/4", to come up to that 9-1/2" and be centered. Make four units like that, and then four more in reverse, and shown at left, bottom... on to Page 2!
