** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares of each...

Next cut the Color 1 and Color 2  5-3/4" x 17-1/4" strips into twelve 2-7/8" squares of each...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" squares right sides together in pairs with all edges aligned. On the back of the top squares, lightly mark the diagonals as shown at left with a solid line corner to corner. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals between the lines of stitching. Each pair will give you two half squares. You need 24 in total. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" if needed...

Sew together pairs of half squares using a scant 1/4" seam (now, and for the rest of the block making) to make four of the units shown at top left, then add Color 1  2-1/2" squares to the ends of two of those units...on to Page 2!
