The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Lightning in the Kitchen Block! You will need to print out two copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by sewing together the Color 4 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strips in a scant 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Cut apart at 2-1/2" intervals. Repeat this with another Color 4 and a Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip set...

Mark and cut the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strips into two 2-1/2" squares of each...

Sew the Color 2/4 strip units together to make two four patch units. Sew the Color 3/4 strip units together to make two more four patch units...

Sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" squares together to make the center four patch unit...

After you have paper pieced your four side units, lay out ALL the units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows. Press the top and bottom row seams to the outside, and the center row seam to the middle. Join the rows, and you have another block mastered!

...on to Page 2!
