This makes a 12" block !

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1 and Color 3  4-5/8" x 9-1/4" strips into two 4-5/8" squares of each. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each. Sew pairs of HSTs right sides together using the standard 1/4" seam. Press seams to dark side. Trim to measure 4-1/4" if needed. Make four units like this...

Now sew the four Color 1/Color 3 half squares together to form the block's pinwheel unit...

Next, cut the Color 2 and Color 3  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strips into four 2-3/8" squares of each. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles of each. Sew pairs of HSTs right sides together using the standard 1/4" seam. Press seams to dark side. Trim to measure 2"square if needed. Make eight units like this...

Lay out all of the Color 2/Color 3 half squares as shown at left with the extra Color 3  2" square in the middle. Sew three horizontal rows, then join those rows to make the block's lower left unit...

Now sew together the Color 1 and Color 2   2" x 16" strips, pressing seams to the darker side. Cut this in half at the 8" point...on to Page 2!
