This makes a 12" block and is paper pieced!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Klondike Star! You will need to print out four copies of the template A page and one of the B page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat quarters should be plenty! 
Join the center units to make one nine patch for the center--all scant 1/4" seams, please, and re-press seams to the dark. After your other units are paper pieced, lay everything out as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, then join those rows to finish the block!
