** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  1-1/2" x 7-1/2" strip into five 1-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 1  2" x 8" strip into four 2' squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 4  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip into four 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to get eight half square triangles. In the same manner mark and cut the Color 2 and Color 4  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strips into four squares of each, and cut those into half square triangles also...

Cut the Color 2 and Color 3  4-1/4" squares in half twice on the diagonal to get four quarter square triangles of each...

Then mark and cut the Color 4  3" x 9" rectangles into four 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 4  3" x 4" rectangle into four 1-1/2" x 2" rectangles...

Next sew the Color 1 and Color 4  2" x 16" strips right sides together along one long edge in a scant 1/4" seam. Press seam to darker side. Mark and cut this at 2" intervals...

Sew pairs of the pieced strips we just cut to make four Four Patch units...

Sew Color 4 half square triangles to the sides of each Color 3 quarter square triangle to make four flying geese units as shown at left... ...on to Page 2!
