** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Sew together three Color 1 and two Color 3  1-1/2" x 11" strips along the long edges using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seams to darker sides. Cut this at the 5-1/2" point to make two striped units...

Next cut the Color 2  5-1/2" x 11" strip into two 5-1/2" squares...

Mark and cut one Color 3  5" x 10" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Trace and cut the two star shapes from the other 5" x 10" strip of Color 3. Do not add seam allowances to this star shape!

Place a Color 3 square right sides together and outside edges aligned with a Color 2 square. On the back of the small square draw in the diagonal line, and sew on this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance; press the remainder towards the darker color. Repeat this with three more Color 3 squares on the remaining corners. Now center a star in the central blue field , right side up. Hold in place with a little dab of fabric glue or a pin, and stitch 1/8" from the outside edges. Trim this unit to measure 5-1/2". Make two units like this...on to Page 2!
