** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

  Start by cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 1  4" x 13" strip into four 2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Next cut the Color 2  4" x 16" strip into sixteen 2" squares. Now cut the Color 2  4" x 13" strip into four 2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

To sew the block's corner units place a Color 2  2" square right sides together atop the top left corner of a Color 1  3-1/2"" square, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square, lightly draw the diagonal, then sew ON this diagonal line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, and press the remainder towards the outer triangle. Repeat this with another Color 2 square on the opposing corner, and then on the two adjacent corners. Make four units like this. These should measure 3-1/2"... on to Page 2!
