The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try an Irish Plaid Block! You will need to print out four copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You only need one center square. Fat quarters will be fine!

 

 

After your units are paper pieced sew the center square, right sides together, from the lower left edge to a point 1/4" from the end of the square along the seam line. Backstitch here to secure. Press seam towards larger unit...

Now proceed counterclockwise around the center square, sewing on the next paper pieced unit...

...and the next...on to Page 2!
