** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Mark and cut the following number of 2-1/2" squares: From Color 1, ten. From Color 2, ten. From Color 3, nine. From Color 4, twelve...

To speed piece the half squares, stack a Color 1 and  a Color 4  2-7/8" x  5-3/4" strip right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly draw in the 2-7/8" square line, then mark in the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart on the square line and on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching. This will give you four half squares. Press seams to darker side. Trim these back to be 2-1/2" square if needed. Repeat this will another Color 4, and a Color 2  2-7/8" x  5-3/4" strip to make four more half squares in that Color arrangement...

Now piece the block, by making the seven rows shown at left. Join the rows to make the block. Use all scant 1/4" seams in this process, and press row seams in alternating directions...on to Page 2!
