** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  5" x 26" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 3  5" x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Place a Color 3  2-1/2" square right sides together against one end of a Color 1 rectangle, with outside edges aligned. (I show it staggered here only so you can see what fabrics I am referring to.) On the back of the top square draw in the diagonal, and sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle, noting that the angle of the drawn line is opposite the first. Make eight units like this...

Now sew a Color 2 rectangle between two of the Color 1 units we just made, pressing seams towards the Color 2 rectangle. Make four units like this...
