** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 14-1/2" strip into six 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" if needed...

Sew Color 1 squares to each side of a Color 2 square using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to dark side. Make two pieced strips like that. Sew to each side of the Color 2  2-1/2" x 6-1/2" strip as shown at left...

Now sew the units shown at left. Two short pieced units get sewn to each side of the center unit. Two longer pieced units get sewn to the top and bottom of that! You are done! :o)...on to Page 2!
