The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Harlequin block! You will need to print out four copies of the template A page, and one of the B page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

Cut the Color 1 and Color 3  5-1/4" x 10-1/2" strips into two squares of each. Pair these up right sides together and on the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal. Stitch 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides of it.  Now use a ruler and rotary cutter to cut the block in half on the OPPOSITE diagonal from that which you sewed. Then cut apart on the drawn line between your rows of stitching.  Sew the resulting triangles together in pairs to make four quarter squares. These should measure 4-1/2". Trim if needed...

Now do your paper piecing of the side and center units. Lay everything out as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows and then join the rows together and you are all done!

...on to Page 2!
