** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  7-1/2" square into nine 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" if needed...

Next follow the same speed piecing instructions with the Color 1 and Color 2  3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strips. Cut these apart on the square lines and the drawn diagonals. Using a ruler and rotary cutter cut each resultant square on the opposite diagonal from the sewn one, making two pieced triangles from each square. Sew these together as shown at bottom left, using scant 1/4" seams. Make four units like this. Square these off to measure 2-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
