** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

 

 

Then mark and cut the Color 1  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut on the diagonal. Stack the resultant triangles and cut on the other diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

 

 

Now mark and cut the Color 4  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

 

Now stack the Color 4 and Color 2  3" x 6" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 3" square line. Mark the diagonals as shown at left. Sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart on the marked diagonals and on the square line , to make four half squares. Press the seams towards the darker fabrics...on to Page 2!
