The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Four Stars block! You will need to print out four copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You will need one 2-1/2" x 10" and one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip of your background color, and one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip of your dark, so Fat Quarters should be plenty for all three colors used for those strips plus the paper piecing amounts needed!( = Star tip color = dark = background)

Cut the background 2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Speed piece the half squares by stacking the background and dark  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2"...

Now make two each of the star units shown at left...on to Page 2!
