** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Cut one of the Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" squares each in half once diagonally to make two half square triangles of each...

Cut the Color 1 and Color 2  5-1/4" squares in half on both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles of each. You only need two of each for this block...

Stack the remaining Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" squares right sides together with Color 3  4-7/8" squares. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal, and then stitch 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides, to get two half squares from each. Cut apart on the drawn diagonal line. Press to the dark sides. These should measure 4-1/2" ...

Repeat the above step Using Color 1, 2 and 3  2-7/8" squares. These should measure 2-1/2" ...

Now sew the Color 1 and Color 2 quarter square triangles together to make one Quarter square for the block's center unit. These should measure 4-1/2"....

To make the block's corner units, sew a Color 3 half square triangle to the bottom of a Color 1 half square. Press seam towards triangle. Add another Color 3 HST to the right of the half square. Sew a Color 1 half square triangle to this pieced triangle. Make two units like this, and two more using Color 2 half squares and half square triangle. These should measure 4-1/2"...on to Page 2!
