** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 7-1/2" strip into two 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles and one 1-1/2" square...

Now cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 6" strip into one 1-1/2" x 3" rectangle and two 1-1/2" squares...

Sew the longer rectangles together along one long edge (as shown at left) in a scant 1/4" seam, pressing seams to the darker sides. Cut this apart at the 1-1/2" point to make two pieced units. Sew the 1-1/2" squares together as well, again using a scant 1/4" seam allowance and pressing to the dark sides.  Sew these units all together to make a nine patch unit...on to Page 2!
