** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 2  6-7/8" x 13-3/4" strip into two 6-7/8" squares. Stack these squares and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Next cut the Color 4  2-7/8" x  17-1/4" strip into six 2-7/8" squares. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make twelve half square triangles...

Place the Color 2 and Color 4  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. Cut at 2-7/8" intervals to make four 2-7/8" squares of each. Keeping the pairs of squares together and lined up, lightly draw in the diagonal on the back of the top squares, and then sew a scant 1/4" seam on each side of the drawn lines. Cut apart ON the drawn lines between the rows of stitching. Each square-pair will give you two half square units. Press seams to darker sides, and trim each one to measure 2-1/2" if needed. You need eight half square units in total...on to Page 2!
