12" block

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas as I do this pattern, and here in Maine, that turns a young girls' heart to thoughts of flannel, Long Johns and electric socks!

...kidding...and quite sure I won't be doing any quilt patterns out of thermal knit...well...pretty sure...

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Now speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color1 and Color 2  1-7/8" x 7-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 1-7/8" squares lines. Now mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Next sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart on the square lines, and on the diagonals between the rows of stitching. This will give you eight half squares. Press the seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Trim to measure 1-1/2" if needed...

Next construct the center of the block, by placing a Color 2  3-1/2" square right sides together atop the upper left corner of the Color 1  6-1/2" square. On the back of the Color 2 square, mark the diagonal...

Sew ON this marked line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remaining 1/4" towards the outer triangle. Repeat this with another Color 2 square on the opposing corner. Now do the same with the last two Color 2 squares on the two remaining corners, pressing those seam allowances towards the center square...

Sew two Color 2 small squares to the ends of two Color 1  1-1/2" x 10-1/2"  strips...

Next sew two half squares to the ends of two Color 2  1-1/2" x 8-1/2" strips...

Then sew the remaining two half squares to the ends of two Color 1  1-1/2" x 6-1/2" strips...on to Page 2!
